Aww I prefer the image I have in my head from the last time I saw Paris.
The Paris in this book was still beautiful and enchanting amidst all the savagery of the war. It was quite predictable but the story, as all things Paris-related, warmed my heart. A love found, lost, and re-found in Paris. The sight of a majestically designed garden that inspired Claire to move to Paris and later on to not give up on Paris. She left her country, she gave up her pride, she became a revolutionist, a spy, a lover, a fighter. The only thing she could not give up was Paris and the hope that it would one day go back to the Paris she had always imagined and dreamed about.
For a few moments I thought it was Odette which would be more dramatic and more of a twist. Sylvie was way too obvious and predictable. That they knew about Claire was also quite obvious, one could totally see that coming.
The slow pace bugged me a bit sometimes but I enjoyed the story, it was a good mix of painful losses, new friendships, intrigue, and hope.

The Last Time I Saw Paris Lynn Sheene 9780425240847 Books Reviews

Great book, though I hate rushed endings where all the loose ends come together.
I enjoy WWII novels, set in Europe, Africa, Asia. the Pacific and the U.S., particularly ones dealing with the lives of ordinary people, not necessarily just the combat stories themselves. This book was very readable and fit my expectations. The service from the seller was excellent as well, a new book for a very low used book price, arriving in just a few days.
Really poorly written. At the level of a really cheesy and badly written romance novel. Couldn't get past the first chapter.
I wish this author would write some more books! I love the story about being in Paris during WW2. Each detail drew me into the story as well as helped me to understand what it was like in Paris during the German occupation. The flower store that most of the scenes were built around was an unforgettable place and what happened to it during the occupation was romantic in the sense of how the person survived thru it all.
After her real identity is reveled to rich husband, Claire Harris Stone decides to go to Paris while the Germans to be with French lover. Soon Claire is able to find working a flower shop. In order get false papers, Claire agree to help the French Resistance. Claire is drawn to Thomas Grey and the two find themselves trying to stay head of the Germans.
"The Last time I saw Paris" by Lynn Sheene was a book that is able to draw the reader. While I thought that in the end Claire did grow as a character and person, I thought that it took to long. Also I wished that ending could have been a little stronger. Overall, I did enjoy "The Last time I saw Paris."
I just finished reading this book in 2017 and read it nearly nonstop. The author captures the evil that nazis did in occupied Paris during World War 2. It portrays the mixed reaction to the nazis with many Parisians not supporting the resistance and tells the story of a young American woman who goes from not caring about the nazis to a brave member of the resistance.
Strong story, but sloppy editing and slapdash writing in places.

That said, I enjoyed this most unlikely story. I started it once before when I bought the book in paperback, but I gave it away because the beginning is told in a glib romance novel style that made me cringe.

The author could have gotten her narrator, Claire, to Paris in a more plausible way, but once she's there, I was hooked. Loved the florist's shop, the young girls who come under the narrator's care, even Grey, the Englishman. All these characters have rich intriguing backstories, yet none fully realized. Claire's backstory that she's the reinvented daughter of a "dirt farmer" is trite, not that it's gone into much. That's the thing about this story. Nothing is developed in any depth. The story races from one event to another.

While the author is a wonderful storyteller, this book could have been more than "a pot boiler."
