Throughout the first two thirds of Doug Burris' "Young Lost Love" I enjoyed what I considered to be a coming of age novel. It was superbly written. I loved everything about novel, the descriptions, the settings, the great character development that never stopped. The story held my interest from the beginning and was complex in that it almost seemed like a psychological profile of each of the main characters. Maybe that should have been a clue for me. Then all HELL broke loose. The story changed course, into something had I known what it would be, I may not have read the novel, but I'm glad that I did. Burris' fabulous writing continued and my interest never waned. It was too gripping to put down.

I think Doug Burris took a chance with the abrupt plot twist, but one that paid off. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

The location of the story is why I checked it out emerald isle is an hour away from home. This story had me from page one. The romance part was beautiful, the mystery part had me on the edge of my seat. The ending was awesome. Wow this author is truly incredible. Highly highly recommend
I rarely give a 5star but this is deserving. Great relatable characters paired with good story being well written and you get this!! Couldn't put it down. Highly recommended
This story would make a good Lifetime Movie. It's very good, and I enjoyed the development of most of the characters. However, it is hard to believe Sarah would go so far as to set up the crimes that develop. Her husband was strict, but he wasn't abusive. She was weird, but she wasn't psychotic. The ending didn't leave me satisfied, but the author did a nice job of tying up the loose ends. What bothered me was that David did not mention the cigarette butts or the sand on his mom's slippers. However, it must have been those things that David mentioned to the detective which led to her arrest.
Really enjoyed this. Possibly because I so identified with the misfit hero. There are some struggles in his life that will be all too familiar to readers. I am not sure if this is supposed to be a YA or a New Adult... But I think the way the struggles are handled make for compelling reading.

Hope there are more books about these people.
Wow, I wanted to read this through in one sitting (but that wasn't possible). I fell in love with the characters of David and Mary from the beginning. He's the kind of young man you want your daughter to meet with realistic strengths and flaws. Then you meet Mary Roberts and you think, "what a smart and talented young woman."

It didn't matter that there was some grammatical errors, the story was not diminished one bit.

This was the 1st time to read anything by Doug Burris, but I enjoyed this book and recommend it to those at least mid-teens (due to language in a few places).

The ending left a big smile on my face thanks to Detective Sam Rogers. Read and enjoy!
Finally, a book that rocked. My BF and I share reviews, and his taste is mystery while mine is romance. I was so delighted that of twelve books I read this month, I'd finally landed on one that I thoroughly enjoyed and read in less than eight hours.
Doug Burris thoughtfully weaves the lives of his main characters and their families, breathing life into a story that begins as romance, then slowly adds the element of mystery to the tale.

Young Love Lost will make you think, keep you curious, and you will be shaking your head at it's twist ending. Readers should love all twists and turns, and be smiling at the end.

The fabulous writing style of Mr. Burris kept me completely engaged. Thank you for giving me a great read. After so many "Free" duds, Young Love Lost was a ray of sunshine!
I downloaded this book a while ago and didn't remember what it was about. I was so pleasantly surprised at what a terrific, thrilling story it is. I don't knowingly read many male authors, but really like this author's style. I feel like I have a very clear picture of every character, and really felt the vast emotions from each character. It is a quick read that captured my interest and my sleeping hours. Having said all of that, the editing is horrible and more than just typos. Wrong names and words are inserted where they don't belong, as well as many typos. I am a stickler about editing but still gave 5 stars due to such a great story, and my respect for most authors. Hopefully this book's editing is not the author's fault. I'm glad I read it; I learned something about myself from some of the characters and their pasts.
