THIS BOOK IS A NICE READ ABOUT THE HISTORY AND MEMBERS OF BAND FLEETWOOD MAC. IT COVERS THE EARLY HISTORY, BEFORE STEVIE AND LINDSAY AND GOES THRU THE EARLY 2000'S. I LIKED MOST OF THIS BOOK AND FOUND IT TO BE INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING. REAL MAC FANS MIGHT LIKE THE COVERAGE OF THE EARLY MEMBERS, BUT I AM NOT TOO FAMILIAR WITH THEM. MANY OF THE TOURS, INTERNAL PROBLEMS, AND SUCCESS ARE COVERED IN NICE DETAIL. I ALSO FOUND THE INTERVIEWS OF THE MEMBERS VERY ENLIGHTENING. ALL IN ALL IT IS NOT A TELL ALL BUT A INFO FILLED BOOK ABOUT THE GREAT MAC BAND.

Favorite band and what a history
Item bought for someone else. Cannot give a proper review.
Anyone who has followed the trajectory of this band's career already knows about the numerous lineup changes, romantic infidelities, infighting, and of course, wonderful music. It's true that the Fleetwood Mac of 1968, a hard core blues band, was markedly different from the version that would emerge just three years later with the wonderful and underrated Future Games album. And the 1974 version who recorded Heroes Are Hard To Find was markedly different from the 1975 version that would dominate the charts thanks to the addition of Buckingham and Nicks. And though these differences are charted in Brunning's book, the focus is almost exclusively on the personnel rather than the music.

Not that we need a track by track analysis of each album, but the author offers almost no insight whatsoever on the songs and how the band's sound was changing. Sure, he offers up generic and rather obvious observations that they were straying away from the blues to focus more on melodic pop-oriented music, but he doesn't delve into the individual songwriting and guitar styles of Kirwan (one of the genre's most underrated players) and Welch and Buckingham. In other words, more time could have been spent on the individual albums!

Another shortcoming is that the book was updated to include the group's reunion tour and work in the early 2000's, but the author, who was a member of the band in its nascent stages, never goes back and recalculates his figures when referencing how much time has passed. Example The original pressing was in the 1990's, so that would make Rumors 23 or so years old. But if you're now in the 2000's, well, do I need to even say it...you need to add 10 years to your figure! Sloppy!

Brunning does do a nice job in covering all phases of the group's career and highlighting some of the more important aspects of their personal lives.

Still, though, with the band's rich history, varied catalogue, and influence on other artists, I can't help but think how good this book could have been.
